Eggplant & Sweet Potato Shakshuka 3-pack

veggie loaded and ready to eat... just add eggs!

This ready-to-eat shakshuka is made by slow-cooking a carefully selected mix of eggplant, sweet potatoes, onions, peppers, and tomatoes in extra virgin olive oil, our very own traditional harissa paste, and smoked paprika. Expect melt in your mouth veggies, caramelized notes, complex aromatics, and a little undertone of smokiness.

Includes: 3 pouches of Eggplant & Sweet Potato Shakshuka, good for up to 4 eggs each (i.e. 12 eggs total!)

Simply pour into a pan, crack some eggs, and let the fire do the magic for you! Or skip the eggs and enjoy with any protein of your choice.

Like harissa, shakshuka is often misrepresented as a ‘ Middle Eastern tomato sauce with eggs’. It’s actually more like a thick vegetable dish from the Tunisian part of the world. Think French ratatouille or Italian caponata, shakshuka is their Tunisian counterpart although it is a bit more nuanced as it comes in a plethora of variations. Today it is very popular to poach eggs in shakshuka but realize that it is not traditionally a requirement!

The term ‘shakshuka’ derives from the double consonant word ‘shakshak’ in Tamazight (native North African language), which translates to ‘all mixed up together’ in reference to the mixed simmering veggies. Shakshuka’s origins are unquestionably North African, specifically the region spanning across eastern Algeria, southern Tunisia, and western Libya.

FAQs

- Our Eggplant & Sweet Potato Shakshuka has an extremely minimal kick (some people don't notice it).

-Our Zucchini & Potato Shakshuka and Fava Bean & Spinach Shakshuka are not spicy at all.

-If you would like to make your shakshuka spicier, we recommend mixing some of our Spicy Harissa in your shakshuka.

Each shakshuka pouch is good for one to two meals. We recommend cracking up to 4 eggs with each pouch. Therefore, one 3-pack will give you enough shakshuka for a dozen eggs.

No eggs, no problem! Our nutritious shakshuka bases are great as a dip or a stand-alone dish. Feel free to add a protein of your choice such as chicken, shrimp, sausage or merguez (Tunisian sausage). Some customers even love to use our shakshuka as a pasta sauce!
