This Tunisian street food inspired sandwich, loaded with merguez, harissa, Tunisian salad, fries, olives, capers, and pickled peppers is an instant crowd pleaser! Perfect for parties, BBQ’s or just a regular weeknight at home. For the merguez links recipe, click here!
Baguette or Bolillo Bread (6-8 inch)
Medium Roma Tomato (diced), 1
Cucumber (diced), 1
Red Onion (diced), ½
White Potato (sliced into fry shape pieces), 1
Lemon, ½
Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 3 tbsp
Harissa Paste, 1 tbsp
Black olives, 6
Pickled Peppers, 3
Capers, 1 tsp
Black Pepper, ½ tsp
1. Preheat the oven to 400F. Toss the potato slices in a bowl with 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, ½ tsp salt, and ½ tsp black pepper. Bake for 30 minutes and set the fries aside.
2. In a pan on medium heat, grill the merguez sausages for 10 minutes while occasionally turning them around until nicely browned on all sides and cooked through. Set aside.
3. Prepare your Tunisian salad: In a bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers with 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, the juice of ½ a lemon, ½ tsp kosher salt, and ½ tsp black pepper. Mix well and set aside.
4. In a small cup, dilute 1 tbsp harissa paste in 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil and stir until a nice sauce is obtained. Set aside.
5. Take your bread and slice open. Spread the harissa sauce on the inside on both sides, then add the Tunisian salad, then the 3 cooked merguez links, a small handful of baked fries, the olives, capers, and finally pickled peppers.
6. Dig in!!
